History

of La Paulée

What began as a modest local gathering has grown into a landmark event welcoming approximately 700 invited guests, with a waiting list for new participants extending over several years.

Inspired by this enduring success, similar La Paulée celebrations have emerged in cities around the world, including New York, San Francisco, Hong Kong, Singapore, Prague, and Zurich. These independent events attract not only local Burgundy enthusiasts, but also renowned winemakers representing some of Burgundy’s most distinguished domains.

Wine Enthusiast - How La Paulée Became the Wine World’s Biggest Party

The essence of La Paulée, however, remains unchanged wherever it is celebrated: each participant brings one or two exceptional bottles of Burgundy wine from their own cellar to enjoy and share with fellow guests. This creates the atmosphere of conviviality so deeply rooted in Burgundian culture, while offering a unique opportunity to discover rare wines, exchange experiences, and forge lasting friendships among like-minded enthusiasts.

As La Paulée de Luxembourg seeks to remain faithful to the spirit of the original celebration in Meursault, we kindly invite our guests, in true Burgundian tradition, to bring exclusively Burgundy wines and, exceptionally, to refrain from bringing wines from other European regions or from the New World. Our guests from Burgundy will no doubt appreciate this gesture of authenticity and respect for tradition.

Wines:

BYO stands for “Bring Your Own” bottle — and that is very much the spirit of the event. Each participant is invited to bring one or two exceptional bottles of Burgundy wine for their own enjoyment and, above all, to share with fellow guests. Both white and red Burgundy wines are welcome, ideally at Premier Cru or Grand Cru level. As the lunch traditionally extends over several hours, many guests choose to bring several bottles; the number and bottle sizes remain entirely at each guest’s discretion.

In keeping with the tradition of La Paulée in Meursault, La Paulée de Luxembourg respectfully asks guests to bring exclusively Burgundy wines and, exceptionally, to refrain from bringing wines from other regions or countries. We are certain that our guests from Burgundy will greatly appreciate this gesture of authenticity and conviviality. If you are looking for a suitable wine selection, we invite you to visit

Frequently Asked Questions

All you need to know

I don’t currently have any Burgundy wines in my cellar, but I would still very much like to attend.

That’s absolutely fine—this is a great opportunity to discover Burgundy in more depth. We look forward to welcoming you to La Paulée de Luxembourg.

If you would like any assistance selecting wines ahead of the event, please don’t hesitate to contact us via email or visit our online shop

We will be happy to help you find suitable bottles.

There is no need for concern about that at all. If anything, the situation is quite the opposite—many participants bring outstanding bottles, and there is always a wide range of quality and styles to share.

You can get a good sense of what to expect by looking at the clips and photos (above), which illustrate the typical level of wines brought along.

We simply encourage you to come with your best bottles and to enjoy the opportunity to taste and exchange with others. If something catches your interest at another table, people are generally very open to sharing a sip and talking about their wines—that is very much part of the spirit of the evening.

No. You remain fully in control of your own bottle at all times.

Sharing is entirely at your discretion—nothing is taken or redistributed. In practice, most sharing happens naturally with your neighbours at the table, but only if and when you choose to do so.

If your bottle is finished, there is no need to worry—this is part of the natural flow of the evening.

That said, to ensure you can continue enjoying the experience comfortably, we do recommend bringing at least one additional bottle as a reserve.

La Paulée is a convivial wine event bringing together guests who share a genuine appreciation for Burgundy and fine wine.

You will be seated at a table with other participants in this spirit, in a respectful and relaxed atmosphere.

For groups: If you are planning to attend with 4 or more people, please let us know at the time of ticket purchase. We will ensure that you are seated together at the same table.

Please arrive on time and enjoy the apéritif wines at the start of the event.

You are free to leave at any point after lunch if you wish. However, many guests choose to stay on for the cheese buffet and to continue sharing and opening bottles.

We expect the event to conclude around 19:00, although some guests often continue the evening elsewhere afterwards.
